SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Culture announced Monday that its 12th International Theater Festival (FITE RD 2025) will resume today, Oct. 27, after a temporary suspension caused by Tropical Storm Melissa.

The festival had been interrupted since last Tuesday due to the inclement weather. Organizers are working to restore the full schedule, aiming to celebrate both national and international performing arts.

The public can now enjoy an extended program of diverse theatrical performances across various venues in the coming days.

The six-day suspension necessitated programming adjustments, including changes to performance times and locations. Updated schedules are available on the Ministry of Culture's official social media channels and regular communication platforms.

Among the international productions returning are “El Brote” (Argentina), “El Protocolo del Quebranto” (Spain), and “Crime Brulé” (Ecuador).

National works like “El Gallo” and “Las Vaginas son Ateas” are also part of the lineup, with new dates to be announced soon. Previously purchased tickets for national shows will remain valid for rescheduled performances.

Tickets for suspended international shows will be honored for performances on Oct. 29 and 30 at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater.

Attendees with tickets for “Crime Brulé” can use their existing passes for today's 8:30 p.m. performance at the Monina Solá Hall, located in the Narciso González Cultural Center.

For ticket refunds, patrons can email [email protected] with an image of their ticket.

The Ministry of Culture expressed gratitude for the understanding and cooperation from the public, participating companies, and festival partners during the reorganization. It reiterated its commitment to a successful and safe event.

FITE RD 2025 launched last Sunday with “El alcalde de Zalamea” by Spanish company Teatro Corsario. Spain is the guest country, and the festival honors cultural manager Freddy Ginebra, founder of Casa de Teatro.

Running until Oct. 30 under the theme “Theater is all of us,” the festival features 15 international companies, 17 national companies, three state-affiliated groups, and representation from the Dominican diaspora.
