SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – The Dominican Republic's National Student Transportation System (TRAE) has delivered more than RD$12 billion (approximately $200 million USD) in economic relief to thousands of Dominican families since its inception in 2023, a top transportation official announced.

Onésimo González, executive vice president of the Metropolitan Bus Services Operator (OMSA), highlighted the program's success, attributing it to President Luis Abinader's vision. TRAE was established as a public policy to ensure safe, dignified, and free school transportation for students nationwide.

Millions of Safe Journeys

Since its launch in January 2023 through November 2025, TRAE vehicles have completed 56.7 million trips across the country. This makes it one of the most active and efficient student transportation systems in the region, González explained.

"We have generated 56.7 million safe trips, representing family savings of over RD$12 billion. This clearly demonstrates the real impact of this initiative on the Dominican household economy," González stated.

Job Creation and Social Impact

Beyond benefiting students and parents, the program has also significantly boosted employment. The TRAE system has created more than 5,200 direct jobs, positively affecting thousands of households.

These positions encompass a range of roles, including drivers, monitors, technical staff, operational personnel, and administrative workers who form the program's national structure.

A Model of Safety and Efficiency

González affirmed that TRAE has solidified its reputation as a secure and reliable student transportation model. It operates with modern vehicles, adheres to strict protocols, and utilizes routes specifically designed to ensure students arrive at their schools punctually and safely.

He reiterated the government's commitment to further strengthening the system. Plans include expanding routes and increasing the bus fleet to continue supporting family economies and enhancing mobility conditions for thousands of students across the nation.
