SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – The Dominican Republic government recently completed the final phase of the Avenida Ecológica, a strategic highway project in Greater Santo Domingo, significantly enhancing traffic flow and improving quality of life for over 850,000 residents.

The high-impact infrastructure, officially inaugurated on December 19, solidifies the Avenida Ecológica as a crucial mobility corridor. It facilitates smoother commutes for residents and workers, while also providing more efficient access to the vital Caucedo port, a key logistics hub for the country.

The newly opened third and final phase features modern infrastructure, designed with a strong emphasis on sustainability, road safety, and accessibility, meeting stringent technical standards.

Eduardo Estrella, the Minister of Public Works and Communications, stated that the project's completion underscores the government's dedication to responsible public investment focused on tangible solutions. He highlighted that the Avenida Ecológica alleviates vehicular congestion in Santo Domingo Este, boosts property values in the area, and saves commuters valuable time and money.

“This connection with the Las Américas Highway ensures many positive outcomes,” Estrella explained. “Heavy truck traffic from the Multimodal Port will no longer turn onto Las Américas. Instead, they will continue straight on the Ecológica, then take the Juan Pablo II Highway, and finally the Santo Domingo beltway.”

Estrella also noted improvements to the marginal road linking Las Américas with the Ecológica. This upgrade means travelers from the eastern region heading to the Cibao or southern parts of the country can now bypass the capital city entirely, further reducing urban congestion.

The Avenida Ecológica is integral to a broader vision for sustainable urban development. Its aim is to reduce traffic bottlenecks, shorten travel times, and foster new economic growth opportunities within the communities it serves.
