SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The Ministry of Culture successfully presented its musical production “Fantasía de Navidad” (Christmas Fantasy) on Sunday, captivating a large and enthusiastic audience at the Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito’s Sala Carlos Piantini.
Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo spearheaded the event, underscoring the vital role of art in fostering family connections and preserving the cherished spirit of the holiday season.
The free performance, primarily attended by children, unfolded as a magical and memorable experience, seamlessly blending acting, dance, music, and song in an elaborate stage production.
Before the curtain rose, Minister Salcedo, accompanied by his family, delivered a heartfelt address to the attendees. He encouraged them to immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere.
"The idea is for all of you to connect with the magic, the charm, and all the elements that adorn the most beautiful time of the year for all Dominicans, which is Christmas," Salcedo stated. "It is a time for sharing, for reuniting with friends, family, and our loved ones."
"Fantasía de Navidad" tells the heartwarming tale of a Christmas elf, portrayed by actor Kenny Grullón, who mistakenly travels from the North Pole to the Dominican Republic. On his journey, he encounters a fairy, played by actress Cindy Galán, who guides him through the unique traditions, customs, and cultural expressions of the Dominican people.
The family-friendly production offers a blend of humor, learning, and emotional depth. It featured the collective talents of prominent national artistic institutions, including the Koribe vocal chamber group, the National Lyric Company, the Dominican National Ballet, the National Contemporary Dance Company, the National Folkloric Ballet, and the National System of Free Schools, all contributing to a high-quality artistic and aesthetic spectacle.
Several government officials also attended the presentation, including Viceminister of Cultural Heritage Gamal Michelén, Viceminister of Creativity and Artistic Training Amaury Sánchez, National Theater Director Carlos Veitía, and Director General of Fine Arts Marinella Sallent.
This performance of "Fantasía de Navidad" is part of "La Brisita Navideña" (The Christmas Breeze), a broader initiative launched by the Dominican government through the Ministry of Culture. The musical also played last Tuesday at the Gran Teatro del Cibao.
The "La Brisita Navideña" program extends its reach across the country, featuring concerts by the Santo Domingo Philharmonic and the Dominican Big Band in various municipalities, all aimed at spreading holiday cheer, art, and Christmas traditions nationwide.
