LOMA DE CABRERA, Dominican Republic — The Santo Domingo Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Amaury Sánchez, delivered a memorable concert at the Monumento al Grito de Capotillo in Loma de Cabrera, Dajabón province, attracting a significant audience from across the region.

The event was a key component of the “Soberanía 4.0” project, an initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel). This project aims to bolster national identity and promote Dominican culture through music and other artistic expressions.

This cultural presentation also aligned with the Ministry of Culture’s “Plan Frontera,” a program designed to stimulate cultural development in the Dominican Republic’s border provinces. The plan seeks to solidify national identity, safeguard local heritage, and invigorate creative industries in these areas, fostering a robust border culture and advancing sustainable development rooted in the nation’s rich cultural tapestry.

Among those in attendance were Culture Minister Roberto Ángel Salcedo and Indotel’s Board President, Guido Gómez Mazara. They were joined by provincial authorities, including Dajabón Senator Manuel Rodríguez, Governor Severina Gil, and Loma de Cabrera Mayor Frank Rodríguez.

The substantial public turnout underscored the community’s enthusiasm for such major cultural initiatives. The orchestra delivered a musical program that skillfully blended international symphonic traditions with the rich heritage of Dominican music.

The repertoire featured classical works by composers such as Gerónimo Giménez, Rossini, Puccini, and Verdi. It also included an extensive selection of Dominican pieces from renowned artists like Rafael Solano, Ñico Lora, Bienvenido Bustamante, Julio Alberto Hernández, Juan Luis Guerra, and Luis Alberti. Guest artists Elianny Rivas and Otilio Castro joined the orchestra for masterful interpretations.

In his opening remarks, Minister Salcedo highlighted that this concert is one of several similar events presented by the Ministry of Culture throughout the country during 2025. He described it as part of an ongoing policy to decentralize cultural offerings.

Salcedo further stated that activities like this reaffirm the Dominican state’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to culture and promoting national identity in every corner of the territory.

The concert concluded with a standing ovation, as the audience celebrated an afternoon dedicated to art, culture, and the celebration of Dominican values in one of the border region’s most significant historical settings.
