Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – Technical and professional training is a decisive factor in the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and the Dominican Republic's overall economic dynamism, Infotep Director General Rafael Santos Badía stated at a business luncheon for Expo Feria Codopyme 2025.
Santos Badía explained that the positive impact of this training on MSMEs is now clearly measurable, evident in increased productivity, job creation, and enhanced competitiveness.
Between 2020 and 2025, Infotep has trained 1.6 million workers across the nation, including 577,000 managers and mid-level staff. This initiative has significantly bolstered the operational capabilities of thousands of businesses nationwide.
The institution's entrepreneurship support model has also provided tools and guidance to more than 32,000 aspiring business owners, fostering new economic opportunities.
"Strengthening MSMEs is a national priority because they form the backbone of the Dominican economy," Santos Badía said. "Training, technical advice, and skills certification not only improve business efficiency but also drive social mobility and the creation of formal jobs."
He also highlighted the success of the Dual Training program (ProDual), which has seen 1,718 young people graduate from strategic productive sectors. This program integrates practical training, technology, and direct links with companies.
Santos Badía affirmed Infotep's commitment to expanding its services nationwide. This expansion aims to ensure MSMEs have access to continuous training processes, specialized technical assistance, and development programs that promote innovation, modernization, and economic sustainability.
"When an MSME grows, the country grows," he concluded. "Therefore, our commitment is to continue developing human talent that propels the present and future of the national productive sector."
The event drew numerous prominent figures, including Fernando Pinales, president of Codopyme, and Isabel Puig, the entity's executive director. Representatives from central and municipal governments, public and private institutions, and affiliated associations were also in attendance.
