SANTIAGO, Dominican Republic – President Luis Abinader visited the Los Solares de Bella Vista sector this past weekend to oversee a major street reconstruction project, a development that residents say is bringing significant relief and improving living conditions for the community.
The initiative, which involves rehabilitating 11.25 kilometers (about 7 miles) of roadways, represents an investment of 125 million pesos (approximately $2.1 million USD). It is set to benefit more than 25,000 people in the Santiago province neighborhood.
Work underway includes the construction of new sidewalks and curbs, the stabilization of road bases, the installation of updated road signage, and the implementation of drainage systems designed to prevent future flooding.
Officials from the Ministry of Public Works stated that the project is progressing according to technical standards for urban areas with high traffic, aiming to significantly enhance vehicular circulation within the sector.
With 1,200 meters (nearly three-quarters of a mile) already paved in the initial phase, residents report noticeable daily improvements. Dust levels on streets and in homes have decreased, vehicle access has become easier, and local commerce has seen a boost.
Accompanying President Abinader during his inspection were Public Works Minister Eduardo Estrella, Santiago Mayor Ulises Rodríguez, provincial Governor Rosa María Santos, and Andrés Cueto Rosario, general director of the Santiago Water and Sewer Corporation (Coraasan).
